Dr. Moreno is Professor of Medicine and the Director of Quality Assurance and The Promotions Committee for the Cardiovascular Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital, and Director of the Mount Sinai Cardiology Fellowship at Brooklyn Medial Center. A world-renowned expert in high-risk atherosclerosis, Dr. Moreno has been a pioneer in the understanding of inflammation in atherosclerosis. Dr. Moreno described for the first time the role of macrophages in patients with acute myocardial infarction. Dr. Moreno also contributed to the understanding of plaque neovascularization in pateints with Diabetes Mellitus. His work in experimental models pionner curernt imaging modalities in vulnerable plaques, and possible therapeutic interventions. .
Dr. Moreno is also a busy interventionalist and a role model for Fellows and young faculty interested in a physician-scientist academic career.
