Dr. Pieter Smits is an interventional cardiologist for more than 25 years and the former Director of the Interventional Cardiology Department of the Maasstad Hospital, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Currently he is Chief Medical Director at Cardiovascular European Research Center (CERC) in Massy, France. He has been the principal investigator of multiple large scale randomized controlled DES trials like: COMPARE, COMPARE II, COMPARE-ACUTE, COMPARE-ABSORB, MASTER-DAPT and Chairman of COMPARE-CRUSH and COMPARE-STEMI. He has been very active in the field of bioresorbable scaffolds from the very beginning and an expierenced operator in complex and high risk coronary lesions.
Currently he is the PI of the multicenter trial COMPARE 60/80 HBR, looking at potential benefit of ultrathin struts and shortened DAPT in HBR PCI population.
