Dr. Luigi Pirelli is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Dr. Pirelli is a cardiothoracic surgeon with over 15years of experience in the field. He is specialized in adult cardiac surgery and structural heart disease. He has been involved in structural heart disease since the inception of TAVR procedures, over a decade ago. Dr. Pirelli is double trained as a cardiac surgeon and interventional cardiologist, offering open surgical, minimally invasive, or transcatheter options for treatment of various kinds of heart diseases. His main focus and interest is valvular pathology, including aortic, mitral and tricuspid repair and replacements. Dr. Pirelli is involved as PI and co-PI in several national trials especially in the structural heart field, and is actively conducts reasearch, both clinical and translational.
